IPR Crashes in C4D S24

I downloaded the trial to see if I want to add Arnold to my workflow. I can access everything fine (textures, lighting, etc) but if I click on the IPR window from the menu, the C4D crashes not matter what scene I use. I can render to the PV with the same scenese just fine.

I saw in another topic to turn off the fast IPR but that doesn't seem to help, and I couldn't find any other topics with the same issue.

Another thing to note, I don't see a watermark on the PV renders.

Here's a link to download the test scene

Hi Rick, Scene works fine for me (cinema4D s24, macOS).
I saw a Redshift plugin missing message (since I don't use RS)? Anything in the Project using RS?

BTW. The no watermark is correct, you will only see that when not logged in.

  • Is this on macOS or Windows?
  • If on Windows, are you using Arnold GPU, or CPU?
  • Can you post the header from an Arnold log, so we can see the system specs?

I'm using Windows 10. I've tried with both CPU and GPU but they both crash when I select the IPR window menu item.
Another thing to note is that the toon shader shows up black with GPU in PV, but displays properly with CPU in the PV. The standard surface display properly no matter if it's CPU or GPU.

Oh gotcha. Yeah I use Redshift as my main renderer so there was probably a setting that saved with the scene file. Nothing in the scene uses Redshift though.

No issues on my Windows 10 either. Maybe it's worth checking with a clean C4D install, no other plugins installed.

Does it crash on both, CPU and GPU?

I doubt it would be a trial license issue, but maybe you could try to render without a license (sign out or switch to network/rlm in the license manager).

Here's a more detailed explanation of how I fixed it. Redshift was the root of the problem, but uninstalling Redshift didn't completely solve the issue. Both items in red were causing the issue, but you can only delete the Redshift Post-Effects with Redshift installed. When switching the renderer to Arnold, the bottom Redshift disappears, but still affects Arnold's IPR and causes the crash.

After uninstalling Redshift, I opened the scene back up and the second Redshift item pops up. If I ignore it and try the IPR, it still crashes. However, if I delete this Redshift option (that wasn't there when Arnold was selected as the renderer and Redshift was installed), everything works like it should.

Once that second Redshift tag is deleted, I was able to reinstall Redshift and everything worked. However, if I accidentally selected Redshift as the renderer, I would have to repeat the steps above to get it working again.

Thanks this helped solve the issue. There were weird traces of Redshift left over that were causing the conflict, so I posted a detailed version of the solution in case anyone else has the issue.

This is the first time I'm hearing about such a conflict with Redshift. Maybe it's new in S24. Let's see if anyone else hit the same issue. Anyway, thanks for the detailed explanation!

We've got another issue reported, when loading an old scene in R23. It also seems to be related to Redshift being installed. I'll investigate.

I could reproduce the issue with your scene after installing Redshift.

I think the bug is in Redshift actually, Arnold just triggers it. I can reproduce it without Arnold installed, with a custom plugin. I have to get in touch with the Redshift devs.
