Missing tx files

So. We have a problem and it's a bit of a head scratcher. Every now and again tx files are vanishing. Always colour maps, always all maps in a udim set. Vanish. Assets that were rendering nicely one second turn matte grey the next.

We always generate tx files pre-render and repath image loaders, no on the fly tx generation. It sounds like user error, but I don't see how it can be. It's all pretty wrapped up in process, no one is doing this manually.

Has anyone had anything like this before? There's only so many times we can encode the same colour maps without going nuts.

What's the Arnold log? Can you get a log that includes the detailed texture statistics, that shows all the file accesses?

If you get gray, then you must have Use Default Color enabled, so you may want to disable that to get error messages in the log.

"repath image loaders"...does that mean you change things like ".jpg" to ".tx" yourself, instead of relying on the Use Existing Tx feature?

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for your response, sorry for delay.

Yes, we assign paths to tx files in the file nodes. We got into the habit of doing that to get round the pain caused by arnold having auto tx generation as default, many moons ago.

So 2 things were going wrong here with the same symptoms, which didn't help. But we have had 3 definite instances of vanishing tx colour maps. I cannot rule out human error but as I said, it seems unlikely.

Thanks for the tip about default color. I will try and capture logs as/when this happens again.
