flat shaded material with opacity channel?

hi all

I'm using 3ds max, so MaxtoA. Wondering what Arnold material to use if I want a flat shaded image on billboard or sprite, that also makes use of an opacity channel.

In max, I'd use a standard Legacy material, turn self-illum up to 100, and then plug in my opacity channel. But when I do this while rendering Arnold, the material glows super bright white.

I'd use a simple "Map to Material conversion" material, but there's nowhere there to plug in an Opacity channel.

any ideas?

You could use Arnold Standard Surface with emission=1

because only Standard Surface has the opacity

Ah yes. Thank you. Out of curiosity, will this cause light to be emitted from the material, and if so, what is the easiest way to turn this off?

indirect_diffiuse: 0 for any surrounding standard_surface shaders or diffuse_ray_depth: 0 (no GI).
