Hello, over the past week I've been experiencing this error message.
Error: [gpu] an error happened during rendering. OptiX error is: Unknown error (Details: Function "_rtContextLaunch2D" caught exception: Encountered a CUDA error: cudaDriver().CuEventSynchronize( m_event ) returned (700): Illegal address, file: <internal>, line: 0)
GPU 0 had 7253MB free before rendering started and 5743MB free when crash occurred
I have no idea how to solve the issue, Maya won't let me render using my GPU.
It will tell me to restart.
"Error: [gpu] Fatal GPU error occurred, please restart the host application".
To be clear, the CPU renders perfectly, this error message only appears occasionally when using GPU rendering.
I'm using the RTX 3080 graphics card, drivers and Arnold are all fully up to date.
I've tried using both Maya 2020 and 2022 and I will still get this error message.
This is basically a generic crash message:
Error: [gpu] an error happened during rendering. OptiX error is: Unknown error (Details: Function "_rtContextLaunch2D" caught exception: Encountered a CUDA error: cudaDriver().CuEventSynchronize( m_event ) returned (700): Illegal address, file: <internal>, line: 0) GPU 0 had 7253MB free before rendering started and 5743MB free when crash occurred
It could be anything, a bug in Arnold, a bug in the graphics driver, a bug in Optix.
If the crash happens only sometimes, then it will be harder to troubleshoot. Normally, we try to isolate the problem: is it textures? shading? some scene element?
The version of Maya probably doesn't matter, because it's the same version of Arnold in each Maya.
As Stephen said, this is a generic GPU crash message, so each person that hits this might be crashing for a different reason. What you can do is make sure you're on the latest version of arnold and nvidia drivers. If that doesn't help, in a new ticket report your arnold and driver version (maybe there's something newer you missed?) and your crashing scene (hopefully simplified if possible) and we can try and see if we can reproduce and fix the crash.
Hi geeks, if it might help, I recently encountered the same issue in 3ds max, Arnold and GPU up to date.
In my case I discovered the issue came from the use of bitmap nodes instead of image nodes from Arnold.
No more issue since I'm using image node plugged to my OSL and materials.
May I know where can i find these settings to change my bitmap nodes into image nodes?
Hey, I had the same issue and it was use of bitmaps, too. It occured after exporting from ArchiCAD to C4D where I had to replace all materials using bitmap nodes or just replacing the bitmap nodes with image nodes.
It didnt make any sense for me because I gcould use arnold in C4D with GPU the day before without any problem.
