motion blur woes

Hi!
I've been trying to troubleshoot why motion blur goes crazy on random frames when rendering an animated sequence. That does NOT happen while re rendering those frames in the render view.
The mesh had an blend shape and did that...thought ok lets bake the anim/shape out as ABC
nothing...same problem. Set anim prefs to DG rather then parallel...nothing...set motion bur to start frame...nothing...
what's the deal with this error? Other meshes also have anim and shapes but this one particular renders fine in some frames and goes nuts in other....Am I missing something?
thanks for any tip that might help solve the issue

Crazy how?
I would check the Arnold logs for those problem frames.
The mesh doesn't have a changing topology (eg number of vertices), does it?

like all messed up looking blur in certain frames..and its perfectly fine in others. No no vertex/geo change. its actually a very simple geo...a disk like with a hole (eye Iris with a dilation/contraction shape on)
