I'm writing a Render Layer Manager for Maya that utilizes Arnold operators instead of RenderSetup Overrides. I'm wondering if there is a way for me to query the result of an selection expression on an operator. I am writing tools to help make collections and selections based on viewport selection but artists would still like to be able to see a list of objects being affected by the operator.

No, I'm afraid not. I think you'd have to do something like: create a separate universe and cook the operators to see what's selected.
The only API is AiOpMatchNodeSelection
