Tonemap/LUT - Exclude background/Backplate

Hi

Is it possible to exclude the backplate or background image from being affected by the Tonemap imager? I'm trying to convert 3Ds max's Linear colorspace to a flat LOG profile, but it affects the background, which already has a flat LOG profile. and thus it doesn't match seamlessly in compositing.

Kind Regards
Bardur M

The only possible way, that I can think of, is if you can put everything you want to tonemap in a separate AOV.

Ah - That makes sense. How would i go about adding all the objects to an AOV? I can't seem to get that to work.

On a related note.
Instead of doing it this way - What is the correct way to render and comp Arnold renders in After Effects (as an example) on footage using a flat LOG?
Should i convert linear to LOG? or should i perhaps apply a LUT to the footage to match the CG? I'm kinda lost here exactly, because 3Ds max doesn't have a real color management system.

I have footage from Blackmagic Ursa, shot in a flat LOG color profile.
What i usually do is apply a LUT to the footage, and then import it to 3Ds max, and try to match the VFX to the graded footage.

But now i'm not grading the film, and colorgrader wants the VFX to be comped to the flat LOG footage.

i presume i should work in linear, all the way, as the renders from 3Ds max is in linear color space, Gamma 1.0. But i have no idea how to match the VFX from 3Ds max and the flat footage.
