I am trying to make some neon lights in Maya, and all of the Arnold tutorials I have seen are for meshlights with a ground plane, which is NOT what I'm looking for. It's nice that the meshlights actually emit light, but they do not create a "glow" like neon or a lightsaber for example. Usually I do this in nuke when I am comping, but if I can get it done in Maya that would be great. Anyone know how to do this? I'll reiterate, there will be no ground plane, it's just a neon sign against a black background that I want to look like it's actually glowing, not just emitting light against a surface.
You need to have atmosphere in your scene to see any sort of glowing in Arnold.
Yes as Brian said, create the light with temperature and use automosphere volumetric fog in render setting to get the affect.
