Exposure/Lighting Issues 3ds max

Hi there,

Wrking on an Interior scene that needs some lighting. I am very new to Arnold and 3ds Max so apologies for the bad terminology!

Having Issues with my environment exposure controls when i combine it with an Arnold distant/skydome light. When I have my exposure controls on I get a basic render like the attached image 01. However when I try to place a distance or skydome light i get the result of image 02...

So i turned the exposure off in the environment settings and the render settings and im still getting the same result image 03. There is no lighting currently in the scene.

All want to do is simulate daylight in the space and use quad lights for the rest so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. Its probably very simple but not to sure!

Thanks.

Try disabling opaque for the windows or just hide them to see if that helps.

Have you tried rendering the room scene here to see if that gives you any clues as to what is going on in your scene?

Just tried disabling opaque on the windows and tried hiding them and did not work.

I have set the render settings as per the room scene you attached and I'm still getting the same results! Ill try merging my model with the room scene and see if that gives me any results...

Lower the intensity/exposure of your light.

For example 1 intensity 1 exposure for the distant light.

For example 1 intensity 0 exposure for the skydome light.

Also make sure the light can enter the room.

Note that I did the modeling in Sketchup and imported it as a 3DS file then bought it into 3ds Max, not sure if that has anything to do with it?

Wouldn't have thought so. Can you post a stripped down scene?

I first used the scene converter to convert all your standard materials to Arnold materials.
Changed your area lights to portal mode.
Changed direction of directional light so it points into the room
Added a skylight.

I guess this is more in line with the conditions you seek.

Also added a max 2016 file.

You can ignore the portal switch and treat them as area lights, but move them outside the window and scale so they cover the whole window, right now they only cover the middle.

What was the issue in the end?

There were no skylight in the scene and materials were still max standard material. + a couple of minor glitches such as the direct light pointing away from the windows, and portal lights were sitting inside the room and a bit small. And glass was then obviously not transmitting due to being standard.

Great thanks for your help. Just wasn't sure of the works flow as I've only started to use Max and Arnold.
