An issue with glass material shader

camera-1.jpg

red-glass-ball-in-a-glass-ball.zip

Hi all,

I am trying to make a model of red glass ball in a transparent glass ball.

But for some reason that I don't know, it's not transparent like a real glass.

Though I can see a red glass ball, I cannot see the reddish background through the glass ball.

All parameters were set as recommended by Arnold tutorial, I think.

Do you have any idea?

Thank you.

Hi Mads,

YES! It's exactly what I wanted. What is the secret of your magic?

Could you give some transparency on the red ball?

Thank you!

Attached updated scene again max 2016, the red ball is now receptable to background changes, as it's more transparent. Use the opacity to introduce stronger or weaker effect.

1. Did you use the "Opacity(cutout)" tab in your Max? If not, could you let me know which tab (or control panel) you used for the control of opacity? I am using Max 2019.

2. After rendering I found that the red ball has some speckles. Do you have any idea to have clear surface?

Thank you so much Mads!

Correct, Opacity Cutout does the trick, while not destroying reflections, a bit of calibration needed to get the amount of transparency you want.
You want to render longer, then the specs goes away, the file I send you cleans up after a while.
