arnoldRenderToTexture crashing (Maya 2017)

When using the renderToTexture tool in Maya 2017, it either crashes or hangs and produces no result if shaders feature subsurface scattering + displacements and we're rendering at 4k. Works fine at 2k,and less complex shaders work at 4k. Get this result both on local render machines and an AWS renderfarm.
Are there any solutions for this? Theoretically it should just take longer to render rather than crash/hang? Standard Arnold renders work fine.

Are there any errors in the log file ?

Unfortunately not, but that link was quite helpful thanks. I have now increased the verbosity level and can see that the RAM usage is huge; 70GB when Maya ends up crashing (with only 20% of the render complete). The scene isn't heavily either so this is odd.

Solved: Was the version of Arnold. Had issue on mtoa: 2.0.0.1, but not on mtoa: 2.1.0.1
Appears to be a memory leak on the earlier version.
