Hi everyone,
over the past few days I have been struggling to render a scene from C4D with Arnold standalone in Deadline.
I have set up my C4D scene as follows: I have my static geometry, which I exported as a .ass file, and then I have my lights, cameras, Arnold volumes, c4d drivers (aovs), and all the rest that is animated under a Null wich also contains the arnold procedural of the static geo.
I am able to render the scene correctly and I can save the beauty pass and everything looks fine. However, I cant find a way to also save the aov passes that I have configured in C4D.
I would really appreciate some help if anyone has any similar experience. Let me know if anything wasnt clear so I can explain further.
Thank you.
So you export the C4D scene to ASS, and the kick that ass with Deadline?
Post an Arnold log for a render.
And I would render it manually with kick as a test.
Not sure what "c4d drivers" means. Are you using Arnold drivers or the native C4D save?
Sorry about taking so long to answer, but things got busy.
Anyhow to answer your question, yes I export the scene to ASS and render that from Deadline Submit.
I meant Arnold drivers, but wrote c4d drivers.
Anyway I found out why I wasnt able to save the aovs before I read your answer, and the reason was that I had not configured the Arnold Drivers, I just used the default "driver_c4d_drivers". I'll just leave a short explanation and the solution here if anyone else encounters my problem and doesn't understand why you can't save without configuring the Arnold Drivers.
When you assign your aovs in the render settings in c4d, arnold creates your <display_drivers> in your scene objects tab, and assigns by default the "driver_c4d_drivers". In order to be able to save your aovs when submitting from Deadline, you need to change from "driver_c4d_drivers" to i.e. "driver_exr" and then you will have access to the Main tab in the <display_drivers> which will then allow you to setup your save paths. This way, you can save your beauty pass and your aovs, when submitting the render from Deadline with Arnold Standalone.
Thank you for the help Stephen, and I hope the info is clear and useful for anyone else, as to me, being inexperienced with Arnold Standalone and Deadline, it was kind of hard to find this information.
Just a small note. Instead of changing the type of the "<display_drivers>", you can create a new EXR driver from the menu (Plugins > C4DtoA > Arnold Driver) or from the render settings, and setup the same AOVs. The display driver could be useful for the IPR for instance.
