Arnold Noice ... Unable to load file "E:/Arnold Renders/Diagnostics/RENDER470.exr".

Hullo all,

I get this same error message if I run Noice.exe via Maya or stand-alone from command line using Arvid Schneider's command.

Few things which may or may not be of relevance here, unlike Arvid's render options, I do not have "Output Variance AOVs" tick box.

I use following AOV with the merge box ticked:

N

RGBA

Z

DIFFUSE_ALBEDO

One chap advised me that I need DLL client for running Noice but I do not understand why and how to exploit it as Arnold noice is an .EXE file.

Regards,

Rob

If you want to denoise with noice, you should output the variance AOVs

"Unable to load file" is what noice prints if it can't find the file, or if it doesn't have read permissions for the file.

Morning,

I got MtoA 3.0.1 and as stated above I cannot find/see the output variance tickbox.

Wondering if this is on a different version or am i doing something wrong.

Regards,

Rob

They just changed the label to "Output Denoising AOVs"

Temporally you can use this command to activate variance AOVs
setAttr "defaultArnoldRenderOptions.outputVarianceAOVs" 1;
Hope this help

No luck I am afraid, I would like to check few of my presumptions if possible.

1. Does Noice.exe work on .exr or some deepversion of .exr?

2. Does Noice.exe need two copies of any given .exr to be denoised, one to be specified as input and as one specified as output which it will modify alongside the filename?

3. Can these be produced with the Optix denoiser boxes ticked the individual AOVs and on the render tab or do they need to be unticked?

I got rather massive noise problem on my hands and need to address it so thanks for your patience.

"Unable to load file" is what noice prints if it can't find the file, or if it doesn't have read permissions for the file. Can you get a Process Monitor log, or something, to show that noice actually finds the file and then prints that error?

noice can work on exr files. it doesn't need two copies.

Stephen & all, I just got some output, not sure whether setAttr, running noice.exe as admin or something else did the job but It ran and then failed to save the image.

C:\solidangle\mtoadeploy\2018\bin>noice -pr 3 -sr 9 -v 0.5 -i C:\solidangle\mtoadeploy\2018\bin\RENDER0140.exr -o C:\solidangle\mtoadeploy\2018\bin\outputfolder noice

5.1.1.0 [e338d869] - the Arnold denoiser Loading images... Using 8 threads. Loading file "C:\solidangle\mtoadeploy\2018\bin\RENDER0140.exr".

Using feature AOV 'diffuse_albedo' Using feature AOV 'N' Using feature AOV 'Z' Working with 1 frame. Will denoise AOV "RGBA" Start denoising (patch radius 3, search radius 9, variance 0.5)

Denoising RGBA Finished denoising Saving image C:\solidangle\mtoadeploy\2018\bin\outputfolder (1280 x 720 x 4) Unable to save image.

I also tried to output to the BIN folder where .exe lives but got same messsage as above.

Any thoughts what to try next?

Thanks for the help once again.

Cheers,

rob

-o should be a file name, for example

-o C:\solidangle\mtoadeploy\2018\bin\outputfolder\denoised.exr
