Houdini Mblur via Alembic in Maya/Arnold

I’m trying to use Houdini per point velocities for mblur in Maya/Arnold. This page...

...seems to indicate you need the soup plugin. Other tips I’ve found suggest hijacking the color attribute to store velocities. @Lee Griggs, is there a way to accomplish this without soup and while still using color for colors? Thanks

Oh, it looks like I just need a vertex attr called "velocityPV" as a vec3(Clr) attr in Houdini and then it works.
