Hello,
First of all, I'm sorry if I make mistakes, or for my bad english, I'll try to be as clear as possible.
So, my company wants to try Arnold for realistic renderings, and I was missionned to create light scenes and textures, based on what we've already created with cummon rendering.
My problem is that I can't find how the bump mapping works. I tryed everything I thought logical, follow the Arnold tutorial on the website, spend the last 2 hours searching on every website online, but I really can't make it work.
I have a vectorial map in 2D that I connected to the "Normal" node with the "Bump 2D", but it's not working, I don't see it on the image. I'm not sure if I'm clear, so here is some images :
This is the standard rendering, the one I would like to recreate with Arnold, and the tree in the material view.
And here is the result I have with Arnold, the Tree and my 2D Bump Map settings :
If anyone can help me, please !
Thank you so much 🙂
The connections for the bump map looks good.
Are you sure you have a decent uvw for the bumpmap?
Maybe add the bump also to the clear coat as a test or turn that off.
Hi Michiel,
Thank you for you answer, I try to add the bump to the clear coat, but it wasn't changing.
I try to re-save the bump map in "jpeg" and larger size, and it's working now. I don't really understand why..
Thanks again 🙂 !
Those normal setting in there is strange. You have a little bit of an uphill battle coming from Vray I assume to Arnold as it is not very fast at all for rendering still "Visualization frames". You will need "Hollywood" rendering power to get a fast result. The Arnold guys are working on some speed options still.
Anyways I think max gradient is not supported. Normals should be 0,0,0.
See the image:
Also check on the image node that the files that you are using for bump or normal are configured as "linear", so Arnold can read the values correctly.
