Reflections are gray

2202-gray-reflections.jpg

I'm pretty sure that I have this wall on the right set up with a mirror like material, metalness at 1, specular at 1, etc... but in the reflection, objects are super desaturated and dark. Is there some setting I'm missing that's preventing it from reflecting like a mirror?

This is in 3ds Max btw.

Edit: Here's a simplified version of the scene file.simplified-gray-reflections.zip

can't investigate your problem right now .. but that grey is probably coming from the material itself (base diffuse) not from what it does reflect. You have at least two ways to get rid of that. Increase metalness leaving diffuse color white.. or increase IOR to some high value like ie 12.

Set the output amount of the environment map to 1 instead of 30.

AAAAHHHHHH! Thank you so much! 😄 I hadn't even considered the environment map settings. I guess I figured I was supposed to go with a camera exposure around 15 for exterior scenes and make everything else fit to that. Everything has low numbers now and it's working perfectly!
