Hello all,
This is my first time posting here.
I received an answer from a user over at the CGSociety Maya forums in response to my post where my initial Arnold render had no textures or colors/material. It was all monotones. I was rendering using Mental Ray initially. His response:
"If you started in MR, you'll need to convert your materials to Arnold materials, Arnold made this easy by including a python script which you'll find in the /docs of the install location of Arnold. I'm not in front of Maya right now, but all you need to do is run the script and it will ask if you want to convert "selected" or "all", select "all". You might need to adjust things a bit once you've done that, but for the most part, things should work correctly for you once you've done that."
I am on a Mac using Maya2018 and thought I'd find the python script he's referring to in applications/autodesk/maya2018/docs. Once I got there the only folder within the docs folder was a "synColor" folder. Can anyone help me locate this script?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Look in the MtoA install: /Applications/solidangle/mtoa

Stephen,
You were very helpful last time and thought I'd seek your guidance again. Having a similar issue again with a different model.
Downloaded a free .obj model and associated .mtl file and textureNot sure where to go from here. Any help is greatly appreciated and material image files. I'm on a Mac using Mayay 2018 and have all the files in one folder. I have the "textured" button turned on in the Maya viewport shelf. Model is only showing in monotone greyscale. I've included three screenshots showing view port before script execution and after and the Mac Finder window where files are located.
Several months ago I had a similar issue and I was fortunate to get a reply suggesting I run the script "mrShadersToArnold.py" in solidangle/mtoa/2018/docs. I selected source script under script editor, then "convert shaders" and selected "all". Viewport changed but still remained greyscale except now with large black areas in certain parts of the model.
Not sure where to go from this point. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.screen-shot-2019-01-23-at-42725-pm.pngscreen-shot-2019-01-23-at-50446-pm.pngscreen-shot-2019-01-23-at-42811-pm.png
Are the normals facing the right direction? Can you share a render?
One of the screenshots shows that VRay shaders are being used, but you don't have VRay installed.
So the VRay shaders are "unknown" nodes (with no parameters) in the scene, and cannot be converted.
Lee and Stephen,
Thanks so much for your responses and advice. Here's a test render per youtest-render-hd540-arnold-skydome-light.jpegr request Lee. Also here's th elink where I acquired the model. It's a zipped file:
I used Arnold > Utilities > Convert Shaders to Arnold to convert all the shaders to Standard Surface
All the textures are fairly dark
Some (I didn't check all) of the Standard Surface shaders have Coat = 0.5, maybe you want to adjust that?
