1. Note the table of material values in the docs:

2. Inspect the Aluminium preset values from within my shader, the BASE parameter.
3. Given that the R19 colour picker uses an 8bit range, conversion is required (0.912 \* 256, 0.914 \* 256, 0.920 \* 256).
4. However, the values in the colour picker (245, 245, 246) imply gamma compression, with a transform of 256 \* 0.912 ^ (1 / 2.2), 256 \* 0.914 ^ (1 / 2.2), 256 \* 0.920 ^ (1 / 2.2).
Is this correct?

Yes, that's correct. Colors in the color picker are displayed in sRGB space (gamma corrected). When translated to Arnold they are converted to linear space.
