Toon Shader has dark specular spot

Hey everyone, I'm trying to get the toon shader working but every time I render I get dark areas where the highlights would be.

1. I only have a backplate image, no environment image, just black

2. I created a gradient ramp with solid / constant changes.

3. Here is my sample slot, I don't know why there is a dark area on the end of the sphere as well.

And here is how my junk objects render out with this material.

The dark spots are annoying me. Let me know if you have some ideas on what I have going on. I have specular at 0.0

It also looks like there is some reflection on the bottoms of the geometry. This might be what the spots are. I just want a matte object without the reflections, rim lighting...all that.

thanks for your help,

Sincerely Randell Trulson

Can you upload your scene?

Do you get it with the Toon scene here?

Hey Lee, Thanks for the reply. I downloaded the example and it worked fine. I did notice that the gradient ramp doesn't work exactly as I expected. It seems to be based on the light that is directed at the object and not a solid gradient. Arnold's toon shader is far more accurate than the traditional one. but for this project is going to take more time and effort to setup than the traditional scanline one. So I am going to use the old pen n' Ink one for now and toy with Arnold's in my spare time.

Thank you for your help.
