Various Light Questions in Maya 3

And finally, what would be the most efficient way to create a soft-box light type effect with an extruded trapezoid and other complex objects such as the ones below? I have attempted aiCurvature so far.

I want it to be bright enough to light a substantial amount of a scene, but I don't know if it can be done with a mesh light. I would prefer a mesh light as they seem to be more efficient than emission, but I don't know how to make the effect work with a mesh light. A similar result to the tube light with the light dying off where the light is black is the desired result. Would backlighting with a mesh light inside be the best course of action in this case? Or just shading the mesh light like I was attempting with the trapezoids and the fluorescent light?

I would use Emission Color in this instance as it would be easier to control, rather than have numerous Mesh lights which would be more cumbersome.

Here is a quick test using Curvature to Emission Color.
