mtoa ass file for render to texture

so i need to manually produce render to texture .ass files for rendering. i'll be rendering the contents of alembic cache nodes and it isn't intuitive how to set the geometry within an alembic node as the uv_camera's mesh parameter. the render to texture utility in mtoa seems to work and if i can see the ass file it renders i can reproduce. anyone know if mtoa produces an .ass file that can be debug'd?
