imported FBX object materials

I'm a relative noobie using Arnold. I've discovered when using imported fbx objects into my Maya scene that they render with monochromatic materials even though in the viewport I can see their assigned color materials. I manually replaced each material with the Arnold aisurfaceshader then assigned new colors. Once I did that and rerendered the colors were visible.

My question is; is there a faster way or perhaps a script that would go through the scene and convert the native fbx materials to Arnold. Thanks in advance for any assistance or advice.

Try Arnold > Utilities > Convert Shaders to Arnold

If I may ask another question of you Stephen; is there a way to see how much rendering time is left in let's say a large render. I'm doing a tabloid size scene render at 300 dpi. At the bottom of the Arnold Render View window I can see "rendering | 3300x5100(1:1) | perspShape | samples 1/8/4/3/2/2". Thanks much.

Stephen, my choice is Arnold>Utilities>convert deprecated shaders. I did that, but nothing happened to the model, it remains monotone. In the Mel script window I got this message: Warning:unknown object Type aIHair

Can you screengrab it? What are the normals like?

Lee, being a noobie not sure how to display "normals". Here's shaded screen grab. Are you looking for wireframe view? Thanks for your time and help with this. Appreciate it.screen-shot-2018-10-03-at-74941-am.png
