How to bake a Normal Map? [Max 2019.2 / Arnold 5.2]

Hello Guys,

I want to bake a normal map with the arnold renderer. In the render-to-texture dialog, i tried all the named Arnold maps in the list already (Arnold_A, Arnold_N, Arnold_P, Arnold_indirect, ....) None of these seem to be corresponding to a normal map.

The regular "NormalsMap" does not work with Arnold, only with Scanline ... I wonder why there is not a normal map from Arnold in that list. Or am i missing something? In the release-notes, it says there is a native workflow now to bake textures. I guess it is via this regular render-to-texture dialog. But i can not find a normal map there for arnold. I also read something about a uv-camera node. But to be honest, i have no idea how to work with that or where to find that even. And not sure if that does help with baking normal maps.

As mentioned in the title, im using Max 2019.2 with the most recent Arnold in it.

Really appreciate any help!

Right now you can't bake NormalMaps with Arnold, it's a known limitation and we'll try to address it soon. For a list of the supported native elements, see https://docs.arnoldrenderer.com/display/A5AF3DSUG/Render+to+Texture
