Using adaptive sampling , quick Q .

sup guys , its my first scene using adaptive sampling in arnold and am not sure if it works in a similar to v-ray , for example in vray i can turn off any sampling input and just make the adaptive option fully decide how many samples each pixel needs , so in that case should i make arnold Camera , Diffuse , Specular etc etc sampling set to 0 and the max adaptive sampling to a number like 8 ! would that work or should i still make them at least 1 ?

You should avoid leaning too heavily on adaptive sampling. This is true for Arnold and it's true for Vray. Brute forcing refinement with AA is slow compared to proper adjustment of light and GI samples. From the docs, "adaptive sampling is good for situations where small areas of the image have high levels of noise that require an impractical number of samples to clear up," but it's not for every image. Arnold has a heritage as an unbiased raytracer, and for many scenes performs best when used as such.

Yes ur right about that , but what would u do when u have a scene that u leave for 12 hours and it renders only 3_4 % ! , Adaptive sampling and mipmaping are one of the solutions am considering , sure am not gonna tell on it 100% but I wanted to understand how different it is from vray AS
