[HtoA]Missing shader/template

Hello :)

Shaders seems to be missing in the template of Houdini 17 (Htoa 3.2.0 - Arnold 5.2.1.0)

Or maybe i miss something *_*

The shader registration is missing, so something might be missing in the install:

00:00:01 231MB | [vop_shaders] Registering shaders ...
00:00:01 232MB | [vop_shaders] shader registration done.

Also, the operators are registered twice, that's weird.

Removing htoafolder/dso in the HOUDINI_DSO_PATH environnement seems to fix the problem :/
Message 4 of 11

We recommend that you don't set the different HOUDINI_*_PATH environment variables separately. Instead, set HOUDINI_PATH with subfolders (eg htoafolder/dso, htoafolder/toolbars and so on)

We've been experiencing this missing shader issue. It's weird because it only happens when opening existing hip files by double clicking them. When the file is opened arnold shopnets appear empty.

If we open a blank houdini session shaders are loaded perfectly. If we file>open an existing scene it works aswell.

Console shows the double registration of metadata files only when opening files by double click. If we open the blank scene it only appears once and everything works.

I first thought about an issue with our 123.py and 456.py custom files but they perform non arnold related operations. (I tried removing this scripts and nothing changes).

We don't usually open our scenes by double click, so it's hard to track the version when this started.

Does any of this ring a bell?

Thanks!

+1, having the same exact issue. shaders load when opening a new file or opening from Houdini command line tools, but when opening an existing file the shaders aren't loaded.

Message 7 of 11

@Javier, are there any extra environment variables that get set when you run open a blank houdini that may not be set when you double click?

Can you share the console log files in both cases?

I'm having the exact same issue but I'can't seem to find a good solution..

There's actually two different problems discussed in this question, with two different answers.

  • The original question was solved by removing htoafolder/dso from HOUDINI_DSO_PATH
  • The second question, from Javier, was solved by upgrading to 17.5.229
Note that this second question was about opening hip files by double clicking. The problem didn't happen when opening hip files through File > Open in Houdini.

Since you have 17.5.299, that suggests the problem is the environment variables.

Where can I change these files on MacOs? any idea?

Yeah, what exactly is the issue in the environment variables. There is nothing. I uninstalled all Autodesk products too. Still the same issue when double clicking on the hips. This started in 17 btw.
