Hi all,
I have downloaded a high poly mesh (8 million polygons) that would be much more manageable in the scene if I could turn it into a displacement map and apply it to a lower res mesh instead. (I am using Arnold for Maya 2018)
I can't find any info on how to do that.
Maybe using the z-depth info from the orthographic view?
Any advice?

You could try using the poly reduction tools in Maya or use bounding box for speedier viewport display.
