Hi there,
I am not able to work out how to add an objects attribute data to a User Data Map. Do I just type the attributes in? And if so - how do obtain attribute names (I guess this second part is a Max question rather than an Arnold question).
For example I would like to add material ID to a User Data Map. The text for this is mtlID - but I don't know where to source that exact text string.....(just happen to know that one for Material ID because of some previous help from Mads :))
Many thanks
Recorded a video going over the process of baby-reverse-engineering info we gradually inject into a very basic .ass file, and then open in notepad and check out what got added.
The stuff is usually found with a declare line followed by the attribute name.

We should ideally, generate a list and put on some central site for all the common things and patch up special cases.
We could make a thread here, not asking a question, but rather STATE stuff in a top post and replies could be additional found attributes that does not exsist in the header post. Just an idea.
Yes - a list of common attribute names would be useful. Though I'm not sure how you would go about having a list that could be added to by anyone - or at least anyone on this forum. Something to think about. I could post a question on the Autodesk site and see if a list already exists maybe?
I doubt that such list exists.
The information is scattered across the documentation and user findings on misc sites.
A thread on this forum called " Arnold 3ds Max Attributes" could be generated, and the person that makes the thread, goes back to thread and updates the first post once in a while if people reply with something like, Hey! I found attribute for "something" and its = This.
Then author of thread goes to edit main post and makes list longer.
I could also make the thread and maintain it. No problem.
I'll start it up this evening if you havent already done so.
