Exclude hdri from shadow matte?

Hello,

so my goal is to reach a render like this one herethe refraction and reflections come from an HDRI. but the shadow comes from a sun or area light.

currently when i combine both lights i get a result like thisi tried increasing the intensity of the area light but then the highlights get way to bright.

this is how my area light look likedo i have to combine both shadow layers in post production? or is there a way to get the result in the first picture in arnold.

cheers

You shouldn't need to do this if you have an HDRI with a strong enough sunlight source. Unfortunately, these are rare.

You could use the Per Light visibility and/or light linking to control this with multiple lights.
