Hi,
I just noticed this on both Max 2020 and 2021.
I am on my local computer and I get this watermark on top of the material preview. Is this a bug?

The only way I can make that happen is by enabling Render Setup > System > Render with Watermarks
Not in our case. That option is off. This is a fresh 3ds Max 2021 install. I tested this both on my workstation and my personal workstation. Other colleagues mentioned the same.
It is intersting that this only happens when you open the Preview Window. Even if you connect a map to a new material, the watermark doesn't appear. Isn't a big issue, is just if you were aware of this behaviour.
They tell me we skip the license check for previews (for speed), and position the camera so that in most cases you won't see a watermark.
Still can't get it to show up on my machine though...I guess I need to scale the windows just right
Thanks for checking. Some people thought that we had issues with the licenses.
Oh, ok. Don't worry about the licenses...we do some "magic" to make Arnold think it has a license when it is in the 3ds Max user interface. That is completely independent of any real licensing that you have set up.
I can reproduce this on my max 2021 student version aswell, it only happens after you open the preview window though.
Production/Activeshade renders are still watermark free.
Seems like a minor bug and kinda low priority
