How to install Educational Arnold 2020 with Educational Maya 2019?

Hello there,

I have successfully downloaded Maya 2019 educational version. I entered the serial number and it opens beautifully. I elected not to include the Arnold download with Maya at the time, as I also wanted to use an educational version of this and so decided to download it separately from here: https://www.autodesk.com/education/free-software/arnold

A separate install has worked for us previously. I noted that the only educational versions of Arnold available are 2018 and 2020, not 2019. So, I downloaded the 2020 version and tried to follow the instructions on the Arnold site here: https://docs.arnoldrenderer.com/display/A5AILIC/Getting+educational+licenses

When you go to the registeronce page https://registeronce.autodesk.com/prodreg as requested, you are able to enter the serial code and everything is fine until you are asked for a 'product request code', which you are supposed to be able to get when you start the product and activate it on the 'registration-activation' page. The problem is, when I downloaded Arnold it gave me a zip folder, which I unzipped to a new folder. I have no idea which file in that folder (Arnold-6.0.0.0_SDK_Windows) installs and opens Arnold, as there are no instructions given. Please advise how to fully install Arnold 2020 so I can generate a product request code and finish the licensing process.

Thanks so much and best wishes,

Maja

Hi there, can anybody help with this please? Should I just go to https://www.arnoldrenderer.com/arnold/download/ and download Arnold 2019 from there?

Thanks so much and best wishes,

Maja

Register the serial number, but do not do anything else on that page. You do not activate an Arnold license like that.

After you register the serial number then go to autodesk.com and sign in to your Autodesk Account. Arnold will be listed under your account, and you'll be able to generate a network license. And then you set up a network license server to use the Arnold licenses.

Do not download Arnold from your Autodesk Account.

Download Arnold from https://www.arnoldrenderer.com/arnold/download

Thank you Stephen, I now have my educational Maya 2019 and Arnold 2019 installed and everything opens as it should. Unfortunately, I can't see Arnold 2019 in my Autodesk account. Arnold 2018 is there, but 2019 is not listed, so I can't complete the licensing procedure. In Maya, the Arnold licensing manager says 'no valid Arnold license found'. It offers the option for an update, which opens the Autodesk licensing set up wizard. Should I execute this? I'm very wary of doing the wrong thing and having to start this process again...Please advise how to get my Arnold copy licensed.

Thanks so much for your help and best wishes,

Maja

Hi

There is no Arnold 2019.

  • Arnold 2020 licenses work with Arnold 6.x
  • Arnold 2018 licenses work with Arnold 5.x

Hi Stephen,

I updated the license manager and all is well. When I was working on site, we were using network licensing for Arnold, but now I'm working from home, obviously I'm no longer connected to that. If I switch from single-user licensing to network licensing, I get the following error:

And under single-user licensing I get a 'your trial has expired' message. Not sure what to do next as I still can't see Arnold 2019 in my Autodesk account. I'm not actually sure how to register Arnold 2019, as all I did was download from https://www.arnoldrenderer.com/arnold/download and then add to Maya 2019 via the plugin manager. I think I'm missing a step somewhere here that registers Arnold 2019 somehow. If you could please advise, that would be great. Unfortunately, I have no IT support at the moment.

Thanks so much for your help and best wishes,

Maja

Hi Stephen,

Not sure what's going on- the forum appears to be out of sync. I just noticed your answer now in my email, but it doesn't appear in the forum listing, for some reason.

Now I'm really rather confused. As instructed, I downloaded from https://www.arnoldrenderer.com/arnold/download

and I downloaded Arnold 2019 to match my Maya2019 download. As explained in my answer above, all seems to be working except the licensing, as the Arnold 2019 download does not appear in my Autodesk Account. I need to be able to register it some how and I'm not sure how to do this?

Thanks so much and best wishes,

Maja

There is no Arnold 2019

  • If you have MtoA 4.x, you use an Arnold 2020 license.
  • If you have MtoA 3.x, you use an Arnold 2018 license (which is included with your Arnold 2020 license file)

A single-user license requires a purchase.

You don't get single-user licenses with an Educational license.
