Hopefully, this is a really stupid question.
I'm finding myself frustrated at the fact there are so many ways to purchase a 3D model and yet I tend to always have to do a lot of surface material work on them to achieve a final look. Naturally, the models tend to come with materials and textures but almost always they are geared towards render engines like Vray or Corona. I've made the decision to commit to Arnold for my near photo-realism and have yet to find a practical way to take other's buyable work and utilize what I'm paying for- someone else's time.
This hasn't killed me and I still have air in my lungs. But now I'm facing a situation where I have to create an animation that involves an entire city street and I simply don't have the time to buy the model and then re-surface the entire thing for Arnold. My time needs to go into everything else needed for the animation.
I've experimented with different formats like the following...
.max with other render engine materials using scene converter
.fbx
.stp
.obj
All of them require work. And I'm not finding a who lot of purchasable models out there that are Arnold-ready. I tend to mostly use turbosquid and cgtrader.
So, let me have it, please. What am I doing wrong?
THANKS!

Check Mads Arnold Converter.

Also, for now, use Arnold Image and convert the textures to tx. Use the option to Load Existing Tx files. That will speed a lot the rendering.
