Trouble Creating a Per-Light AOV

I am reading through the documentation on how to create Per-Light AOVs, but I am not able to replicate the results show in the documentation.

After entering a Name into the AOV Light Group field, and creating a new Custom AOV, the Light Group attributes are disabled in the Attribute Editor.

Did you try the scene at the bottom of the AOVs page?

I opened the provided scene and those options are also disabled.

That's because the AOV RGBA_quadrant1 is itself a light group AOV.

By naming an AOV with a light group name, that makes the AOV a light group AOV.

Add the RGBA AOV. Then you can use the Light Groups controls.

sorry, i'm not sure I follow, that screenshot is from the scene file provided from the documentation. Is it not setup correctly?

It's set up correctly. That's one way to do it.

If you want light group AOVs for all four quadrants, you can either create four AOVs:

  • RGBA_quadrant1
  • RGBA_quadrant2
  • RGBA_quadrant3
  • RGBA_quadrant4

Or add the RGBA AOV, and then enable All Light Groups

I'm sorry, I am missing something. I created a new AOV, and gave my light a AOV name (different name from the new AOV), but the option is still disabled?

EDIT: Oh I think i understand now, you are referring to the AOV named RGBA, not a custom AOV with "rgba" as

What is this custom AOV? What are you writing to it?

I am trying to write out the Lighting information to the AOV.
I only created it because the Documentation mentioned "Create a new AOV" first, then link the Light to it.

Per-Light AOVs

2. Create an AOV and select it to show it in the attribute editor (in this case we have used a diffuse AOV).

For a custom AOV named test, you can create light group AOVs with names like test_quadrant1, test_quadrant2, and so on. Just create the AOVs with the right names.

For built-in AOVs like RGBA or diffuse, see this video:
