SSS doesn't work on implicit surface

Hi everyone !

After some test it seems that implicit surface (base on VDB sdf) d'ont support SSS.

Any idea how to make it work ?

Thanks.

Ok, may be I didn't explain clearly what is happening.

When I assign a standard surface shader to a volume with implicit surface mode enabled, everything is working fine (diffuse, specular, transmission, coat, sheen, emission) except subsurface scattering.

When only SSS is enable on the shader whatever the weight the model appear completely black.

In other terms Why only sss is not working on implicit surface ?

Or How to make sss working on implicit surfaces ?

Thanks

In my test, I get no SSS working on implicit.
The asset just fades to black as you mention, when the SSS float value goes from 0-1.
I am however using the core implicit node, so the structure comes as a hard surface automatically.

Not exactly sure how you build up this implicit, it sounds 4sure like a different route, I also cant' picture how you initiate the implicit, perhaps this is related to Maya specifically.

Can you show how you initiate the condition and a render? It could be as simple as a sphere as long as you expose the UI and shader noodle.

SSS is not supported on implicit surfaces (yet). Right now, SSS works on polymesh and curves only.

We do have an enhancement ticket for this.
