Speed up rendering of a forest

Hi,

Quite a general question, but I'm hoping to collect some techniques to speed up rendering of large forest scenes.

Lots of indirect light coming through a forest canopy. The setup is quite typical, lots of pine trees with opacity mapped leaves.

Are there any cool ray switching techniques out there to speed up part of this calculation? I already made sure the opacity maps are tresholded.

Thanks!

Hi Zeno, replace the opacity maps with real leaf geometry if you can.

If you can't there is this (MtoA).
