My issue is when previewing Arnold Textures in the SME [slate material editor] in Max18 [3DSMAX 2018].
Here is a video showing the issue https://youtu.be/cqS7bf96kjw . Please don't take the joke in the title seriously, I always wondered if I'd be butchering the ethos here with a joke that's probably a revenant ghost by now.
There's not much to it. I make an arnold material, I make the preview background the standard Max checker pattern, then the preview object suddenly has a blue haze.
My workaround for this currently is running a second instance of 3ds Max with the just materials and spheres loaded in. I then hide and show checker backgrounds in actual physical scenes to rapidly prototype the look of a material.
Thanks for your time I look forward to hearing from the Arnold community about this 🙂
Having the same problem here. Using 3DSMax 2019 and MAXtoA 2.1.945.
Changing background does not solve the problem.
It appears to take the color of the upper left pixel of a custom texture to light the material preview.
So I added the same gray as the default background of the material slot,~50 percent grey.
Here is my test background:
I tried it, but although the blue cast goes away, the reflection and refraction still not be seen.
This is a known issue and we have a ticket for it. We'll try to get it fixed ASAP.
