I need to light the interior and exterior of a scene, and I'd like to exclude the interior from the exterior lighting, but I want to use the same HDR fro both.
So my thought is to make two identical Arnold Sky objects, one with an override that excludes the interior and the other excluding the exterior. Then lighting the interior using portals over the openings, and lighting the exterior with a big portal over the camera-facing exterior. My thinking is that since the exterior Sky Object is exclusive to the exterior this should be safe and the interior will be lit soley by the portals over the openings.
It'd be more useful just to be able to point the interior portals to the corresponding Sky Object, and then just light the exterior using an a simple override.
Sorry if I am being unclear.
You should use Light Portals with the Skydome light.
OH! I get it now! Thank you. I did see that, but it didn't really click at the time.
Do sky domes offer any better noise performance? We're not using 5.1 yet, so I ended up having to go back to quads and sun sources. We'd like to use EXR, but with a Sky object as the light source is a hair over-budget.
