Is there any plan in the near future to add the ability to create custom AOV's when rendering volumes, as we have with hard surfaces? Not sure if this is possible on other platforms, but would definitely be up there in terms of feature requests for HtoA

This is a core limitation at the moment, and yes, there are plans to implement volume aovs in the future.
is this not implemented yet? its been four years since this is mentioned as a "core limitation"
"core limitation" means that it is a limitation in the Arnold core renderer
custom AOV will double the rendertimes, most likley. i good way is to setup different renderpass. this you setup the Aovs with optimized rendersettings faster rendering. (no shadows rays, etc...)
