How do I get rid of alShader in Maya 2018 with Arnold 5?

Anders Langlands' alShader no longer works in Arnold 5. But even when I'm not using it, I get a lot of errors in my Maya 2018 scene, because apparently the plugin is still active in the background. How do I completely uninstall and remove the alShader plugin?

Here's an example of one of the errors I get:

# Warning: alInputScalar.dll was compiled against non-compatible Arnold 4.2.12.2

That's a warning, not an error, and it happens before rendering.

To uninstall, you could do one of these:

  • delete the alShader DLLs from your system
  • If you're using ARNOLD_PLUGIN_PATH to point to the alShaders, remove the alShaders location from the environment variable

In Maya, use Arnold > Utilities > Convert Deprecated Shaders to get rid of alShaders in a scene.
