@Lee Griggs Would the best way to use the mixer shader be, to set the weight for all the channels in the standard shader to 0 except for the emission channel, and then add it to the carpaint shader?

you might have some overhead doing that (using a zero'ed aistandard) also that's not really necessary.
best workflow here is to use an aiBlackbody (in the 2nd slot of a mix shader) which is probably really there for this kind of stuff, then set mix shader to add (light is additive). eventually if you wanna know the long story have a read here ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black-body_radiation
